The National 155 is a double-pull carpet binding machine (Binding Brute). National no longer posts a manual for the 155 on its website; the instruction manual below is a copy from PreFloor's archive. National still sells needles and accessories for the 126 and 155.
Maintenance schedule
From the 155 instruction manual.
| Interval | What to do |
|---|---|
| Each bobbin change, or at most every hour of continuous running | Inspect and clean the shuttle area: remove the lower feed roller plate, bobbin case, hook retainer and hook; clean the race cover, hook and inner race; apply a light film of the supplied lubricant to the hook, inside of the race cover and inner race |
| About every 8 hours of running | Remove the top cover and oil the main shaft bearing port, the crank journal ports and the stitch selector pivots; repeat in the needle bar area and lower area. Never lubricate the tension control. Check and re-tighten all screws |
Binding tips from the manual
A few notes National gives for difficult carpet.
- Check the needle and the amount of bobbin thread before starting a job, and run a short scrap strip whenever you change carpet types.
- Never pull on the machine or the carpet while it runs; the feed roller and needle stroke are timed together.
- Heavy carpet or rubberized backing can be hard to bind; as a rule of thumb, bevel carpet over 40 oz. Use the #126T lubricator on unitary/unibond carpet.
