The National 5280 Panther is an electric, hydraulically driven, forward self-propelled walk-behind scraper with a 1 HP motor. National lists it for soft goods: glued-down floors, carpet, VCT, sheet vinyl, linoleum and sport surfaces. Orbital action keeps the blade in the work. The 5280-ROM version has its own manual.

Maintenance schedule
The 5280 operating manual (401871 Rev J) has no hour-based schedule. These intervals are from National's 5280 maintenance checklist; National recommends bi-annual items more often on machines used or rented regularly.
| Interval | What to do |
|---|---|
| Weekly | Check wheels and blade holder, power cord, on/off switch, forward control lever and speed dial; keep the T-handle wrench on the machine; remove glue and debris; check for binding or broken parts; make sure labels are legible and screws are tight |
| Bi-annually | Inspect handle grips; check the two Allen bolts on the blade holder cover; check blade holder for wear or cracks; check rear wheels; inspect or replace cutting head bearing and isolators; drain and replace the 1.5 gallons of Texaco Rando 46 hydraulic oil |
Fluids and lubricants
What National specifies for this machine.
- Hydraulic oil: Texaco Rando 46 or a compatible ISO or AW #46 fluid from a brand-name manufacturer. An oil change takes 1.5 gallons (checklist); the manual calls for a 2 gallon (8 L) container to drain it.
