Buying Guide

Hand tool or machine Shears are individual hand tools. The UV83, Bond EW-311, and B&J Mini Shear are powered or machine-based and sit at a much higher price point.
Blade length Napping shears run 6″ to 8″. Carpet shears run 7.5″ to 10″. Choose by the size of the cuts and how you hold the tool.
Tip style Duckbill napping shears are listed in 6″ and 7″ lengths. Crain No. 187 is a big loop style.
Handle style Gundlach offers offset handle (177) and bent handle (118, 1225) carpet shears alongside straight models.
Bevel before binding The Bond EW-311 is a coarse cut handheld beveler for pre-beveling heavy carpet prior to binding. See Carpet Binders & Sergers for the next step.
Pile repair The B&J Mini Shear is a portable shearing machine for mends, J-cuts, high lines, and other pile irregularities.
